Project Management Results Statistics

InfoQ - Deborah Hartmann interviewed Jim Johnson of the Standish Group to learn more about this often quoted source of information about project success and failure. The Standish Group has been producing and updating its research report since 1994.

As background, The CHAOS Report of 1994 documented sobering statistics: 31.1 percent of projects cancelled, 52.7 percent "challenged" (completed over budget and/or behind schedule), and just 16.2 percent successful. An annual release of, The Choas Report, providse updated details.

There are some people who challenge the findings of the CHAOS reports. Samad Aidane has written a blog post, titled The Chaos Report Myth Busters which cites research results that conflict with the Chaos Report.
